Unit 1 - Major Contour Assignment #2

Unit 1: Major Contour Assignment #2

Space
Showing depth in an artwork.
Negative Space - The space around the subject or in the background
Line Quality (element of design - Line)
Line quality refers to the thickness or thinness of a line. Range in line quality heightens descriptive potential: you can describe textures, movement, light, space, etc. Using many different kinds of lines in your drawing can also add visual interest.
Variety (principle of design)
Variety is about varying elements and objects in your image, to avoid making them boring. (using a variety of lines and colours and materials in this project)
Task:
1. You will draw 4 contour line drawings of the people sitting across from you, looking at the lines and shapes that make up the face. Make sure you are using a frontal or profile view.
Try
      1 Blind
      1 Continuous
      2 Modified
2. Draw a modified contour “partner portrait” on good copy white drawing paper, incorporating negative space lines as well.  Your partner must be sitting in front of you! You also have the option to do a self-portrait. Go over your pencil lines with Sharpie pens (thick and thin), paying attention to the line quality needed to show variety.
3. Colour in your shapes using 50% crayon/pencil crayon and 50% marker, making sure to keep the colours separated by the newly formed shapes.
